In winter, local emission sources, particularly residential wood burning and transportation, immediately affect the quality of air we breathe. Whether living in an urban or rural community, each of us can contribute daily to maintaining air quality by avoiding use of a fireplace or woodstove and using environmentally friendly modes of transportation (walking, subway, bus, train, carpool). If you have to use an automobile, do not let the engine idle unnecessarily.
